Colors are my starting point for everything
My videos represent emotions that I experience, the creative experience of making each video is a trip back into my childhood memories and my unconscious. For example, the video for Barbaric is very orange and blue – I was inspired by the pallets of a renaissance painting my grandparents own.
I believe in the ability to create new realities with your mind.
I believe in the Quantum physic theory of Stephen Hawking. I studied for a Masters in Philosophy – during classes the texts and lectures inspired me to write my own songs, especially French philosophers like Lacan and Deleuze. As a child I’d write songs in my head to cheer myself up. I lived in my own little world.
Miles Davis said “If you understood everything about me, you’d be me.”
I say, “You should wear your trauma proudly.” That’s how I describe my idiosyncratic style. My song Backpack is about people criticising my peculiar aesthetics – even now people laugh at me. I don’t understand why, but I do accept it.
To me dancing is exactly what Proust means when he writes about eating a Madeleine.
In his book, In The Search of Time, he takes his readers for a ride through their unconscious memories, which is something I try to do in my videos. In the Baby Love video, I sing, "Love, You don't know what that means". I’m trying to show someone who doesn't know what love is what it is for me: to kiss a giraffe, to be a flamingo, it’s hysterical.
