Girli is the stage moniker of Milly Toomey, the 18-year-old musician and producer with a distinct sound and total pink style that encourages everything but indifference. She began playing at open mic and soon her quirky lyrics, in-your-face attitude and bountiful energy soon garnered an ever growing army of Girli fans. Not afraid to make a statement or two, her DIY electro punky-lite sound and bold appearance make for a true standout star – a beacon of fluorescent (pink) light for the internet gen.
I love dancing. Movement is really important to me.
Whenever I write lyrics, I write about what I can see and hear and feel and then when it’s finally transformed into a song I can’t help but dance.
I can see the London skyline from my roof and it always takes my breath away.
I go up every night to look at it. I love lights and buildings and cities. Countrysides are beautiful, but for me nothing compares to seeing a whole sea of lights within a city.
I always say that if I had to choose a food-based place to live it’d be a patisserie.
I love pastries and chocolate, the way they make you feel is quite an emotional thing.
The band Gorillaz make me feel fantastic.
I can listen to them anytime, any place and I’ll feel good. Any music that reminds me of my friends makes me feel so happy.
There must be a chemical reason for why I love pink so much, but I just don’t know what it is.
My personality doesn’t connate the usual things you’d associate with the colour but it makes me feel sassy, bright and out there. I love matching colours, I think it looks awesome.
